As highlighted last week, a six-week suspension of garden waste collections starts today. Somerset Waste Partnership has taken this difficult decision so that staff can be redeployed to support recycling and rubbish collections. These are extremely stretched due to the national driver shortage, the continued effects of Covid and other pressures. Somerset is not alone; many other authorities have found themselves having to take similar steps for the same reasons.
All subscribers are being contacted by email (if they have email addresses) or post, and will receive an eight-week extension to their subscription. This will happen automatically; they do not need to do anything. More information is available online at www.somersetwaste.gov.uk/gardenwaste-suspension
