I took the opportunity to meet Mark Shelford the new elected commissionaire for Avon and Somerset Police were he stated his priorities with regard to policing going forward, with regard to Exmoor he said that he wanted the local police to concentrate on giving advice for farm security especially with regard to machinery, also he felt there was a need to reduce speeding and there was new equipment which he was going to make available for councils which is number plate recognition, which goes direct to a central control and can be used to prosecute, with the new recruiting campaign that is now taking place he would hope to increase the number of police officers on Exmoor.
